What Day is it? HUMP DAY:
Thinking about starting back to school in August always feels like the Sunday to the school year. You scramble to get textbooks, supplies and even have a run through of how your schedules will be. The Monday of the semester seems to be the first day of classes and into September. The month of September feels like Tuesday and well by October it's like the Wednesday of the semester. Typically the drive for student begin to decrease around the month of October for the fall semester and March for Spring Semester. That being stated if you find yourself feeling the week day blue I suggest you celebrate the hump day method! On Wednesdays I want to write about something to this blog about how to overcome some challenges that we face each week. I think that adding some humor and tips to making hump day one of the best days. As students approach November I want the sense of calmness to carry over as Friday, December, ending the semester in a positive way. If there are any tips or ideas that work best for you please share!

It must be an Indiana thing but have you ever found yourself resting your head when you hear a train in the distance and instantly feel so calm, just me? The sound of a train is one of my favorite sounds in the world. It's weird that a person would have a favorite sound but there is something about it that brings a sense of home. Trains travel to new destinations every trip exploring something exciting and seeing the world. They continue to have journeys for a purpose, some new and some old. In most ways I think a train represents me and every other person. All my life I have lived near a rail road track and before I fall asleep every night I hear the whistle of the train and it brings me a sense of home.
I loved this photo because the first major change in my college career was centered around this idea of being home. Transferring universities no mater what stage never seems like a good idea. If you are considering transferring its best to research to figure out whats best for you. To some it maybe the only chance to get where you need to go. Transferring from a large college to a smaller campus can have many benefits. Leaving a small university to go to a large one also has its pro's too.
Like most students I craved the idea of being 18 and on my own attending a large state university. When the reality of the funding hit me on my tour of Indiana University Bloomington. It was that moment I picked my first regional campus. Purdue North Central, it was far enough away that I felt like most of my friends, having the chance to leave our home town. The campus was also close enough that I could commute every day to classes. I later found it to be terrifying and my first mistake in my college path. I was stuck at a cross road of what to do and where to go. Personally after my first semester I wanted to drop out all together.
I found that distance wasn't the best for me. I became very depressed and found that even trying to make friends in a university was hard but going into a place not knowing a single face made me not want to go. While on route from every drive home I would hit small spots that I could feel anxiety become lifted of my chest. It was the moment I heard the train a few blocks away from my house that I felt that finding a campus near home would be the best decision I ever made.

The First Choice
The defining moment in everyone's life can be boiled down to this idea of what to do next towards the end of adolescents years. Yet at this age our brains are not fully developed. Not a ounce of alcohol has entered our bloodstream, legally and for most voting for the next candidate is three more years away. This time isn't to reflect on missed opportunity but instead this collection of where we stand would be the priming moment in our history. The defining moment towards the future.
For some they can find themselves transformed into the real working field. Others risking everything for the chance for others to live in freedom while structure is implicated in the directness of military. It seems the norm today is the continuation of school. Have it be the two year associate, the four year bachelor, or the master of more schooling beyond. That's the beauty of it all options they are endless. This blog is about that how life takes twists and turns but how we adapt to them is what defines us. Weighting the pros and cons of belonging to the local university is reflected in this blog. The idea of how college is so different from everything expected. Merging the dreams and finding that even the local or non traditional campus experience may lead to larger options that even an adolescent couldn't predict.
